HOTEL EXCURSION #4: Whales and Bacardi Beach (Cayo Levantado) Excursion
This Whale Watching Expedition is truly an experience of a lifetime. Each winter the humpback whales make the journey from the North Atlantic to the Samana Bay to give birth to their calves. Enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains that surround the Samana Bay. Pass by the famous crystal blue waters of Cayo Levantado island (sometimes called Bacardi Island).
Note:
You may get wet, so dress appropriately and bring a towel. Ride may be rough at times and we recommend you take sea sickness medication if you are susceptible. Open-air powerboat is used. Usually a Catamaran. It's not out own boat but we have seats reserved on one of our colleague's boats and we send along one of our guides to take care of you all day long.
Please note:
Kim is the specialist for whales in Samana and does a great tour on a large V-Hull boat. We do not claim to be as knowledgeable as she is. We do a different kind of tour that leans more towards the fun side as opposed to the technical side. If whale information is greatest reason for taking this tour please contact Kim at Whale Samana.
Rules:
There are some rules for Whale Watching that must be obeyed by each boat. Only 3 boats can be on a pod of whales at a time so we'll have to wait our turn upon arrival. Once you see whales you will have about 30-45 min before the law requires us to move along.
After the Whales:
Finish the day with lunch and beach time on the famous white sands of Bacardi Beach along the crystal blue waters of Cayo Levantado island (sometimes called Bacardi Island). We do recommend sun screen, sun glasses and a hat as you will be in the sun most of the time.
You will have all that you can drink:
Beer, various soft drinks and water.
